Spring has finally sprung on Chicago-land! I couldn't be happier!
We had a very laid-back Easter weekend. We found out on Good Friday that Jake has bronchitis - poor guy. He has a tendency towards viruses settling in his lungs, thus bringing on asthma-like attacks. He just couldn't stop coughing - even with the use of the nebulizer. His Dr. put him on an antibiotic to make sure that the bronchitis doesn't evolve into pneumonia...again...poor guy. He's a trouper though - he takes his medicine like a champ and rarely complains.
Jake was back to more of his happy little self by Saturday so it was hard to keep him inside and quiet on a beautiful sunny day. We finally let him go outside for about 15 minutes late in the day and he wanted to try riding his bike without the training wheels - we've been subliminally putting this thought in his head for a while, but didn't want to push. I had also promised him that I would buy him 'X-Box' when he rode without training wheels (thinking it would still be awhile). So, we took the training wheels off, we held him and got him going a few times and within about 5 minutes - he was riding on his own - like a pro! About 15 minutes outside and he was coughing a little so we got him back inside before it got bad. I didn't want to make him go in, yet I couldn't let him stay out...so hard.
Needless to say - I made a trip to Target later Saturday to pick up the X-Box - he was a happy kid (hubby was happy too!). The X-Box definitely made it easier to keep him quiet and inside on Sunday.
Sunday we had a lazy, 'at-home' day as Jake calls them. We all took naps and even got a few things done around the house. For dinner we had kabobs - I know - who has kabobs on Easter? I guess we do! I've been doing the South Beach Diet for the past week and my sweet hubby made every effort to make the weekend as easy as possible for me - so we had lots of fresh veggies and protein-filled meat. I can't even describe how badly I wanted to eat some of Jake's Easter candy - but managed to only have a tiny nibble of one of the mini-Hershey bars he ate.
All in all - a perfect spring weekend!
Up next:
Hubby has to work this weekend so Jake and I are flying to Florida to spend the weekend with my mother in law and my sister in law. My in laws have a townhome in Venice near the beach. After the long and cold winter we've had here, I'm really looking forward to relaxing in the warm weather for a few days.
More later!
