Sometimes life throws you a curve ball. Mac was in Oceanside last week – Wednesday through Saturday. His flight home was supposed to land around 10:00pm on Saturday night, but thanks to the sunroof incident on a Southwest plane on Friday, his flight was very delayed (and oversold – they were offering $1,000 + the cost of your ticket to give up your seat, but the next flight back to Chicago was today – Tuesday). Instead, he made it home around 3:00am and he woke up on Sunday feeling sick. To be honest, I’m surprised he hasn’t been sick much more this year with all of the time he spends in airports and on airplanes.
I was happy that Mac was home and it was a nice bonus that I made it to my Dailey Method class on Sunday morning. Then Mac and I went for a run together Sunday afternoon – he thought it might help him to get out of the house. You never would have thought he was the sick one – I had one of my worst runs ever. After the run, we cleaned up and took the kids to downtown Naperville. We let the kids run around at the park (well, Sienna ran around, we forced Jake to play with her). Then we grabbed a quick dinner. Later that night, Mac was really feeling miserable from what he thought was a bad cold. He was miserable Sunday night and all day Monday.
That brings us to today – Mac was supposed to get on yet another plane to go back to California; Northern Cal this time. As we were going to bed last night he said, “I don’t think I should go tomorrow. I think I should stay home and rest so that whatever I have doesn’t stick around for the next two weeks.” My internal reaction? Whoa, who are you and what did you do with my husband? What I said? “You must be really sick. I can’t remember the last time you took a sick day, especially one that meant canceling a work trip.”
The bad news is that Mac is sick. The good news is that he is home an extra night this week. Yay! He is still planning to take his Thursday-Sunday trip which means a crazy weekend for me and the kids, but I’ll take what I can. An extra night I wasn’t expecting? That is a gift for me when I’m used to Mac being gone so much.
The crazy weekend we’ve got coming? I’ve mentioned before that Jake is quite an amazing runner. (Its proven, not me just being a mom.) Along the way, he’s roped a few of his friends into doing runs around the neighborhood with him. One of his closest friends, Patrick, has really taken to running as well. Jake and Patrick have decided that they want to run a 5K at a local forest preserve on Saturday. I said that I would take them and that Sienna and I would cheer for them. I warned them though, that Sienna has gymnastics, so we may have to leave right after they run. So for now – Saturday – 7:30am race registration, 9:15am 5K start, 11:15 am gymnastics, 1:30 pm swimming class (Sienna) and 9:20pm soccer game (Jake). We do get a nice “break” in the afternoon, which is when I hope to fit in some kind of a workout and I suppose I’ll feed the kids dinner. I also need to make it to the grocery store, pick up the dry cleaning and my blood pressure medication and make it to Target to pick up a few things. It’s no wonder I take blood pressure medication, huh? I have a feeling that the next few weeks are really going to test my organizational skills.
